When the small petrol company FMP starts eating into Mogul's sales, Alec Stewart and Peter Thornton trace its success to Ian Bixby, its newly appointed managing director. Brian Stead decides Mogul should simply hire him, though Stewart has misgivings. Bixby also holds a valuable stake in FMP, and Stewart and Jane Webb track him to Romania, where he is in talks to acquire petrol from fields that Mogul lost to nationalisation.
