With an annual general meeting approaching and nothing to report from Petawanga Lake in Ontario, Brian Stead sends Peter Thornton to find out why the survey team has drawn a blank. Thornton finds the camp split between cautious senior geologist John Horler and the impatient Brian Skinner. The arrival of Frank Marshall, a rich Texan hunter, and his wife Honey at a nearby camp adds to the strain.
