A Brutally Honest Conversation with My Mom

It’s pub day for Why Am I Like This?, and Sabrina’s mom Helly joins the show to talk honestly about Sabrina’s old dating patterns: texting nonstop, chasing emotionally unavailable men, people pleasing, and losing herself trying to make someone love her. Helly shares the advice she gave Sabrina for years, like “be careful what you wish for” and “you have to love yourself more than you need to be loved,” and explains why choosing yourself is where real change starts. Sabrina then opens up about imposter syndrome, needing outside validation, the pressure of content creation, and her mom’s health, and how hearing “I’m proud of you” changed things for her. If you struggle with anxious attachment, self-abandonment, low self-worth, or letting go of people who don’t choose you, this episode is a reminder that healing is messy, there’s no fully healed version of you, and you can still become who you want to be.
